The most effective way to maximize revenue per patient is by actively marketing elective and cosmetic dental services to patients.

The relative profit generated by elective services such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers and implants is far greater than revenue generated by common hygiene and other necessary procedures covered by insurers. However, many patients are unaware of the availability or utility of elective services, which they might be interested in purchasing. It is therefore in the best interest of both the patient and the practitioner to ensure that each patient is educated about the full range of services the practice can provide.

Although the utility and profit potential of both added patient comfort and elective services marketing are clear, most dentists do not yet have dedicated systems in place for achieving either of these goals.
